Welcome to the SPLASH page

Welcome to home of the Steam Punk League for Aquatic Shenanigans (SPLASH). The purpose of this page is to plan an all-male steampunk water ballet to be performed in the pool at Gaslight Gathering, September 18-20, 2015. Right, I know what you're thinking, water ballet, seriously? Well, sort of. Inspiration for this performance will be taken from the “By a Waterfall” number from the 1933 movie, Footlight Parade (Busby Berkeley), but the choreography will be based on the pool scene in Caddyshack. Ultimately, we need between 12 and 20 guys to learn (fake) a routine that will run less than a minute.

Wanted: At this point, we have enough guys to pull it off, but we could still fit in five or six more. If you're interested, contact me through the Facebook page or leave a comment here.

Date/time: Saturday, September 19, 3:30 pm (Rehearsal, Friday evening, time TBA)

Details:

The idea is to have everyone wear something resembling a Victorian bathing suit and a cheap (disposable) hat with goggles that will survive getting wet and perform a very short simple routine almost identical to the pool scene from Caddyshack with or without the Baby Ruth. Ideally, we want to keep this simple, cheap, and easy so you don’t have to spend a lot of time/effort preparing.
You will need the following:

Obviously the choreography from Busby Berkeley is insanely complicated and would take, what is the right word, umm, talent. The choreography from Caddyshack, not so much.

It's under a minute and relatively simple. I might have a tweak or two, but this is it.

The following link is to the "By A Waterfall" sequence, from the 1933 film Footlight Parade, choreographed by Busby Berkeley. This is what Caddyshack was paying homage to.

Obviously, this is way over our heads, but the film comes from a rare period in Hollywood production code was in place, but the major studios largely ignored it. The following clip has more skin than you're likely to find in any 7 minutes of film anywhere. So if you like pretty girls  in bathing suits, you'll like this.

Hats

I ordered a bunch of hats and they are now in:

All are made from felt or straw, no plastic. Figuring in sales tax, spreading the cost of shipping for each, an rounding to the nearest 25 cents. We have the following:

  • 10 derbies - $3.00 each
  • 4 top hats - $3.00 each
  • 4 tall top hats - $3.50 each (tall top hat is the one the guy in beard is modelling)
  • 2 straw pith helmet - $1.75 each
